About Schmieding Developmental Center Schmieding Developmental Center strives to improve the diagnosis and treatment of children with neurodevelopmental and medical conditions that impact cognitive, emotional and behavioral function through direct care, teaching and training providers, and collaborating with other agencies to increase awareness and the creation of services. Appointment Information Psychiatric and psychological/neuropsychological evaluations: referrals are accepted by primary care providers and/or medical specialists. Concussion evaluations: referrals are accepted by primary care, coaches, athletic trainers, and parents. To be considered for a comprehensive evaluation, your child’s primary care physician (PCP) must determine if the level of concern warrants this service. If the PCP believes the concerns fall within the scope (dual diagnosis, neuro-developmental, neurological, chronic health, and/or learning disability not responsive to school interventions) of the services provided at the Schmieding Developmental Center, he/she will submit the appropriate referral and documentation for further consideration. Please remember, a referral from your child’s PCP does not guarantee that your child will be seen. If the referral is accepted, the triage process” begins. The purpose of the process is to obtain as much information as possible to determine the correct services from the start. If during the process it is determined that the Schmieding Developmental Center services are not appropriate for your child, you and the referring physician will receive a notification with recommendations indicating what services would best meet the needs of your child. Once the process has been completed, you will receive a Patient Information Packet . This is required so that we can learn more about your child and be able to best meet their needs. After the completed packet has been received, the triage team will review and request additional information as needed. If your child has been previously evaluated for developmental and/or behavioral concerns (i.e., speech therapy, psychoeducational, developmental or psychiatric evaluations, etc.) and you have copies of any of their reports, please mail/fax them to our clinic along with the patient information packet. When all information has been obtained, a clinician will review and determine if a comprehensive evaluation is warranted. Once the need for an evaluation has been determined, an appointment can be scheduled. Unfortunately, due to the specialized services we provide and the large number of referrals that the Schmieding Developmental Center receives, families often have a waiting period for an initial appointment. Currently, our wait time is 8-12 months. The wait time for early evaluations of Autism, 42 months and under, is 4 months. UAMS Health MyChart UAMS Health MyChart is a free online patient portal that gives you free, secure 24-hour access to your health information. You can see your lab and test results, send messages to your doctor, make appointments, pre-register for appointments, refill prescriptions and pay your bills. Ask your provider or the clinic staff to send you a sign-up link by email or text. Once you have this link, you have eight hours to sign up with just your name and date of birth.
